01 · The brief

Political mobilisation moves at the speed of the news. A date announcement, a statement responding to it and a call to turn out might all be needed on the same day.

02 · Constraints

  • 01Same-day turnaround against breaking news
  • 02Press photography, not commissioned photography
  • 03Urdu at display size on every asset
  • 04Posters read on a phone and pasted on a wall

03 · Approach

Three registers

Red for mobilisation, white for statements, blue for membership. The palette tells you what kind of post it is before you read it.

Desaturate the crowd

Press photographs are pulled to near-monochrome so the speaker, the date and the demand carry all the colour.

One number, one date

The strongest posts are a single figure or date at display size. Everything else is caption.

QR at portrait weight

On the membership drive the QR is given the same visual weight as the leaders — the post exists to be scanned.

04 · What was delivered

Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore profile graphic: the white scales mark centred on a deep blue field above the organisation's name in Urdu.
Profile mark. Scales, name, nothing else — the only quiet asset in the set.
Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore poster announcing an Islamabad March on 20 September, with two speakers at a lectern below heavy white and red lettering and the Margalla hills behind.
March announcement. One date, one destination, set at maximum contrast for a phone.
Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore poster on deep red announcing a sit-in on 27 August at 5pm, with a raised fist and a cut-out portrait of the speaker.
Sit-in call. Red ground, raised fist, the time given as a chip.
Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore poster calling a nationwide shutdown on 3 September, with a raised fist, a chain and padlock, and a yellow campaign strip about petrol prices.
Shutdown call. Chain and padlock carry the idea without a line of explanation.
Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore sit-in poster with a photograph of a young woman at the protest holding a placard reading We Demand Tax-Free Petrol.
Documentary photograph used as the poster, with the campaign strip above it.
Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore sit-in poster showing a child holding the party flag at a rally, with an Urdu line across the lower half.
Same campaign, softer image, the Urdu question doing the work.
Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore statement post headed with the figure 1.97 rupees, quoting the Lahore chief on fuel pricing, over a photograph of him speaking at a protest.
Statement post. A single number as the headline.
Jamaat-e-Islami statement post on white, an Urdu open letter set above a black and white photograph of party leaders addressing the press.
Open letter. White ground and monochrome photography, deliberately unlike the red campaign posts.
Jamaat-e-Islami statement post about an appeal not to hold a long march to Islamabad, with two leaders photographed at a lectern beneath red and yellow Urdu headlines.
Response post, published the same day as the news it answers.
Jamaat-e-Islami memorial poster on black and gold, pairing a portrait of the late former provincial chief with the speaker at a commemorative address on 5 July.
Memorial address. Gold on black, the two portraits sized to show who is being remembered.
Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore Eid al-Adha greeting in cream and olive, with Urdu calligraphy, a line drawing of a mosque and a portrait of the Lahore chief.
Eid greeting. The one warm-palette piece in the set.
Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore Independence Day post with the map of Pakistan filled with landscape photographs above an Urdu message about renewing the country's founding promise.
Independence Day. The map is a photo mask, not an outline.
Jamaat-e-Islami membership drive poster on blue, headed with yellow Urdu lettering, showing two leaders and a QR code linking to the join page.
Membership drive. QR given the same weight as the portraits.
Jamaat-e-Islami membership drive poster on blue with a single leader waving, yellow Urdu lettering and a QR code.
Same drive, single portrait. The template holds with one face or two.
Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore poster reading Lahore is ready, with the Lahore chief speaking over a monochrome crowd and the date 20 September set large in gold.
Mobilisation poster. Crowd desaturated so the speaker and the date carry the colour.
Alternate Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore poster reading Lahore is ready, with a pointing speaker above the date 20 September in gold on black.
Second cut for a different placement.

About this project

How fast can design respond to a news cycle?

Same day, if the system is built for it. Three colour registers — red for mobilisation, white for statements, blue for membership — mean the palette does the sorting before anyone reads a word.

Why desaturate the photography?

Because press photographs are not commissioned and vary wildly. Pulling them to near-monochrome makes them consistent and lets the speaker, the date and the demand carry all the colour.
