PackSmart

Choose right, pack smart. Packaging is the first physical thing a customer holds.

PackSmart is a Pakistan-based custom packaging business I built, run from Islamabad and delivering countrywide. It makes paperboard cartons, rigid boxes, corrugated mailers, paper tubes, plastic and PVC, pouches and paper bags for food, cosmetics, pharma, retail and apparel brands. Running it taught me to design for dielines and presses, not screens.

Mission
To make packaging in Pakistan cost-effective, sustainable and good-looking: packaging that adds value to the brand and improves the customer's experience of the product.
Vision

What it promises
Recyclable, reusable materials; every box customisable; design included; delivery anywhere in the country.

02 · The design problem

A social media post exists on a screen. Packaging exists in the customer's hands. It has to communicate the brand, protect the product, present information clearly, photograph well, remain practical to produce and improve the buying experience — all at once, and all within what the material and the press will actually allow.

03 · Approach

Design to the dieline, not to a rectangle

Every concept is built on the converter's actual dieline, with the cutline on its own non-printing layer. A design that ignores the fold, the glue flap or the curve of a bottle is a design that gets redrawn.

Commercial constraints are the brief

Material, dimensions, print method, product category, customer expectation and production limits are decided before the visual work starts, because they are what the visual work has to survive.

Product visualisation as a deliverable

B2B packaging buyers need to see the finished item before it is produced. Professional compositions and mockups are part of the job, not an extra.

One brand across screen and substrate

The same identity has to hold on a printed box, in a marketing graphic and on the website. Keeping those three consistent is the actual work.

05What it taught

Lessons that changed the method.

  • Typography behaves differently on a physical product — what is comfortable on screen is often too small once it curves around a bottle.
  • Colour consistency across materials is a production decision, not a design preference.
  • Packaging hierarchy is brutal: brand, product, variant, claim. Anything else competes with the four things a buyer actually looks for.

06FAQ

Common questions.

What packaging formats does PackSmart cover?

Paperboard cartons, rigid and magnetic gift boxes, corrugated mailers and shipping cartons, paper tubes, Mylar and kraft stand-up pouches, paper bags, plastic courier flyers and accessories. Every format is customised to the product.

Which industries does PackSmart serve?

Food and beverages, HORECA, cosmetics and personal care, e-commerce and retail, apparel and fashion, and pharmaceutical and healthcare.

Where is PackSmart based?

Islamabad (G-10/1), with delivery across Pakistan. The catalogue and contact details are on packsmart.pk.

How did running a packaging business change your design work?

It moved my attention from how a design looks to whether it can be produced. Materials, dimensions, print method and production limits now shape a concept from the first sketch rather than being discovered at the press.

Can you design packaging for my product?

Yes. Send the dieline, the material and the final copy, and see the packaging design service for what the process and handover look like.

Same problem, your business?

Solved from the owner’s side as well as the designer’s.
