Social Post Size Reference

Design feed posts at 1080 × 1350, stories and reels at 1080 × 1920, and thumbnails at 1280 × 720. Keep all text inside a 60px margin on feed posts and inside the middle 1080 × 1420 of a story, because that is the area no platform crops or covers with its own controls.

Platforms change their crops more often than they announce it, so the safest approach is to design at the largest supported size and keep everything that matters well inside a margin.

One master per post, exported to each placement. Designing each placement separately is how a campaign drifts out of alignment.

Before you publish

  • Text inside the safe margin on every placement
  • Profile picture checked as a circle, not a square
  • Cover checked at phone width as well as desktop
  • Urdu and Arabic converted to curves so nothing substitutes
  • Exported in sRGB — CMYK posts upload dull
  • File under 8MB, JPG for photography, PNG only where you need transparency

Common questions.

Should I post square or portrait?

Portrait at 1080 × 1350 takes more vertical space in a feed, which is why most campaigns default to it. Keep a square master as well for placements that crop hard, and design so the square crop still contains the message.

Why does my Urdu text break on some phones?

Because the device substituted the font. Urdu and Arabic depend on contextual letterforms, so a substitution does not merely look different — it can change how the letters join. Convert the type to curves before export.

Why do my colours look dull after uploading?

Almost always because the file was exported in CMYK. Social platforms expect sRGB. Design in whatever you like, but export social assets in sRGB.
